Digital Retinal Screening

This procedure enables Our Doctors to take high-resolution digital photographs of the interior portion of your eye, called the retina. The color photograph is taken using our specialized retinal camera and shows detailed images of the various structures of the retina, including the optic nerve, blood vessels, nerve fiber layer and the macula. It can depict abnormalities that may threaten normal vision. This technology aids Our Doctors ability to diagnose and document many diseases. It also provides a baseline for comparison with previous and future images, which aids in monitoring disease progression and response to therapy.

This procedure is appropriate for patients with glaucoma, diabetes-related eye problems, macular degeneration, and other retinal diseases and disorders. It is even useful in screening healthy eyes.

Routine Eye Examinations

Age and risk factors determine how often someone should have an eye exam. A comprehensive eye exam has many elements, including, but not limited to:

As you focus on a target, Our Doctors will shine a light at your eye and flip lenses in a machine in front of your eyes. This allows Our Doctors to get a good idea of your prescription.

Refraction

This is used to determine your exact prescription. An instrument will be placed in front of your eyes. This will show you a series of lens choices. You will be asked which choice is clearer. Based on your answers your level of farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, or presbyopia will be determined and a prescription for corrective lenses can be made.

Slit-Lamp Exam

This instrument is used to examine the overall health of your eyes. This allows Our Doctors to get a magnified image of your eye structure to evaluate and look for signs of infection or disease.

Glaucoma Test

This test will measure the pressure inside the eye.

Dilation

Drops are used to make the pupils larger to get a better view of the internal eye. The drops usually take about 20-30 minutes to take effect. The drops will make your eyes sensitive to light, and you will have trouble focusing on objects up close. These effects will last only a few hours. You will need sunglasses after a dilated exam. Dilation is very important for people at risk for eye disease. It allows for a thorough evaluation of the health of the inside of your eyes.

Your contact lens fitting is a separate fee from your eye exam. A change in the lens may incur an additional fee. The fees for your exam and fitting are not refundable, even if your contact lenses are returned for whatever reason.
